Title : Novel material paradigms for nanophotonics - from topological insulators and perovskites to chalcogenides

Abstract:
In the past few years, there has been considerable emphasis on developing new material platforms for realizing nanophotonic devices with better performance efficiency along with characteristics such as dynamic tunability. In this talk, I will discuss our work in this direction using different material systems. In particular, I will talk about how topologically protected surface states can be accessed in the optical spectral region and their use for metamaterial and quantum optics applications. I will then discuss our work on perovskite-based dielectric metasurfaces where we have demonstrated structural color tuning across the visible spectral region. Finally, I will talk about the use of thin
non-volatile chalcogenide layers to create a tunable anisotropic nanocomposite in which the spectral regime of negative refraction can be switched from the near-infrared to the visible.
