Training Program on Nanotechnology Relevant to Medical Research

About

CeNSE Department in joint collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science (RGUHS) Karnataka, “Training Program on Nanotechnology Relevant to Medical Research” for Medical Professionals. The primary objective of this program is to create awareness about the recent advancements in the field of nanotechnology.

Workshop 4

Workshop 4 (02nd Mar, 2020 to 13th Mar, 2020.)

Centre for Nano Science and Engineering (CeNSE) conducted the 4th Residential Training Program for the participants from colleges affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Karnataka. The program aimed at introducing faculty members from Ayurveda, Unani and Homeopathy colleges to the field of Nanotechnology and to familiarize them with the state-of-the-art facilities available at CeNSE for carrying out Nanotechnology based research. The program also enabled and encouraged the attendees to come up with research proposals in the Nanotechnology discipline. The workshop included lectures in various fields of Nanobiotechnology by eminent faculty of CeNSE and other departments of IISc. The program also included practical sessions which were divided into hands-on tool training and hands-on research training sessions.

The workshop was conducted between 2nd and 13th March, 2020. Prof. Akshay Naik, Associate Professor, CeNSE inaugurated the program and provided an introduction to CeNSE and its facilities. Prof. Ambarish Ghosh, Associate Professor, CeNSE provided an overview of the two weeks training program. This was followed by a short talk about the program by Dr. Suja, Deputy Director, RGUHS, who also informed about the expected outcomes from the participants once they successfully completed the program. She also urged the participants to make use of the Nanotechnology facility available at CeNSE and encouraged the participants to come up with research proposals in the field of Nanobiotechnology which can have a huge impact to the human society.

The two weeks residential training program was attended by 35 participants from Ayurveda, Homeopathy and Unani fields. During the training program, lectures were conducted from 09:30 AM to 12:30 PM while the hands-on tool and research trainings were conducted between 02:00 to 05:30 PM every day. The lectures were designed based on applications of nanotechnology in the field of biology. The participants were trained in different instruments like TEM, SEM, AFM, FTIR, UV Visible Spectrophotometer, Zeta analyzer, etc. They were also trained on photolithography techniques. The hands-on training sessions were based on nanoparticle synthesis and its applications in hyperthermia based experiments and detection of albumin using fabricated screen printed electrodes. The workshop also provided exposure to image analysis techniques using software tools.

The program concluded with a feedback session arranged at the end of the training program. Many participants expressed their interest in pursuing research in the field of Nanobiotechnology equipped with the knowledge gained from the intensive training program. Finally, at the end of the program, all participants were asked to submit a project report based on their two weeks training program and a research proposal in the field of nanobiotechnology.

Some of the comments by the participants:

“The training was effective in delivering the knowledge of nanotechnology and provided a greater scope for the development of Aurveda in the form of evidence based science. ” Dr Vijayalakshmi K M.
“It was an excellent program to undergo research in Ayurveda field with the help of nanotechnology.” Dr B. N. Satish.
“It was an excellent program as it has opened doors of research in medical field using nanotechnology. I got an idea about what CeNSE is doing and what I can do at IISc and CeNSE if I take up research in future.” Dr Mamatha. Sri. S
