SUMMARY:[Talk] : Efficient and Responsible Use of CeNSE Central Facilities
DESCRIPTION:Talk Title: “Efficient and Responsible Use of CeNSE Central Facilities” \n\nSpeaker : Ms. Sabiha Sultana\, Chief Technologist - Head of Projects Office\, CeNSE \n\nDate: 6th February 2026\, Time : 4 PM \n\nVenue: CeNSE Seminar Hall \n\n\nAbstract: \n\nCeNSE’s central facilities are among the most advanced shared nanofabrication\, characterization\, \nand packaging infrastructures in the country. However\, extracting their full value requires more \nthan technical access; it demands planning\, discipline\, and a clear understanding of process ownership\, \ntimelines\, and shared resource responsibility. \n\nDrawing on several years of experience leading the external projects of our centre and successfully \nexecuting a large number of academic\, strategic\, and industry-driven projects\, this talk will outline practical \nstrategies for using CeNSE facilities efficiently. The discussion will cover common pitfalls\, best practices in \nprocess planning and booking\, documentation and data discipline\, coordination with technologists\, and the mindset \nrequired to transition from exploratory experiments to reproducible outcomes. \n\n\nThe goal is to appraise students and researchers with learned best practices and institutional knowledge to help \naccelerate their research while strengthening CeNSE’s culture of reliability\, accountability\, and excellence in \nshared infrastructure usage.

SUMMARY:2nd PRISM Silicon Photonics Hands-on Design Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The workshop will be held offline on-site at the Indian Institute of Science\, Bangalore\, from 17 to 20 February 2026. The hands-on silicon photonics design workshop is based on the Ansys Lumerical EDA platform. The workshop will be a combination of theory and design. The participants will get an insight into the fabrication and characterisation constraints as well. As a participant\, you will be taken through the full development cycle from design idea to chip characterisation. \nTowards the end of the workshop\, participants will be given a Design challenge. The winners of the Design Challenge will have the opportunity to have their design fabricated at the National Nano Fabrication Centre (NNFC) and characterised in the Photonics Research Lab\, at the Centre for Nano Science and Engineering\, Indian Institute of Science\, Bangalore. The design will then be characterized in the Photonics Research Lab\, after which the results will be shared with the participants. \nRegistration confirmation against screening. Since we have limited seats\, the selection for the course will be based on the applicant’s background and suitability. After registration confirmation\, the applicant can pay the registration fee to confirm their seat. we shall send registration confirmation in the fourth week of January 2026. \nThe course will be offered by subject experts from IISc and CADFEM application engineers. \nRegistration Fee: \n\nRegistration cost for Industry Professionals = 22\,500+18% GST\nStartups/University faculty = 18\,500.00+18% GST\nUniversity students = 9\,500.00+ 18% GST\n\nThe registration cost includes training material and catering.\n*Rental laptop during the workshop at an additional cost. \nLast date for registration requests is January 23\, 2026. \nRegistration link: https://forms.office.com/r/mRLAZT6GzU \nFor any query related to the workshop\, please write to prism-pic@iisc.ac.in. \nPlease mention “Si photonics workshop” in the subject. \n  \n\n\n\nDay\nContent\n\n\n\n\nTuesday 17th February\nSession 1\n\n\nInauguration and introduction to the course\n\n\nSilicon Photonic Integrated Circuit basics\n\n\nPhotonic Integrated Circuits Design Ecosystem\n\n\nLunch Break\n\n\nSession 2\n\n\nWaveguide basics and directional coupler\n\n\nWavelength filter basics\, Ring resonator\, and interferometer\nLight-chip coupler: Edge and Grating coupler and Silicon modulator\n\n\nWednesday 18th February\nSession 3\n\n\nAnsys Lumerical Photonics Design and Simulation software: Introduction\n\n\nHands-on: Waveguide and directional coupler design\n\n\nLunch Break\n\n\nSession 4\n\n\nHands-on: Ring resonator and interferometer design and optimisation\n\n\nThursday 19th February\nSession 5\n\n\nHands-on: Light-chip coupler: Edge and Grating coupler\n\n\nHands-on: Silicon modulator\n\n\nLunch Break\n\n\nSession 6\n\n\nFabrication process overview\n\n\nHands-on: Design to Layout Conversion\, GDS Factory\n\n\nFriday 20th February\nSession 7\n\n\nProject design challenge\n\n\nVisit to the Nanofabrication facility\n\n\nLunch Break\n\n\nSession 8\n\n\nPhotonic IC Characterization: Visit and Demo — Characterization and Packaging Facility\, Photonics Research Laboratory\n\n\nValedictory Function / Feedback

SUMMARY:[Seminar] : Opto-Spintronics: Ultrafast Optical Control and Probing of Dynamic Magnetization
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Dr. Chandrima Banerjee\, Assistant Professor\, Department of Physics\, IIT Kanpur.\nTitle: "Opto-Spintronics: Ultrafast Optical Control and Probing of Dynamic Magnetization"\n\nDate: Friday\, 27th 2026 - Time: 4 PM\nHi Tea & Coffee: 5 PM\n\nVenue: CeNSE Seminar Hall\n\nAbstract:\n\nIn this talk\, I will discuss ultrafast non-equilibrium spin excitation in magnetic systems\, \nwhich is a fascinating branch of opto-spintronics research. The motivation is to optically tune \nand probe the dynamic magnetic state at ultrashort timescales\, which will be potentially useful \nfor future magnetic storage and computation devices. The technique used is time resolved magneto \noptical Kerr effect spectroscopy with a dual pump scheme. This employs two consecutive ultrashort \nlaser pulses to manipulate the magnetisation and subsequently examines it in the pump-probe manner. \nI will show all optical switching of magnetisation using femtosecond laser pulses in thin films of \nferrimagnetic Heusler alloy Mn2RuxGa\, which dynamically occurs in ~ 10 picoseconds. Finally\, light matter \ninteraction on picoseconds or sub-picosecond timescales not only provides insights into fundamental processes \nof nature\, but also paves the way towards next-generation THz information processing and technology.\n\nBiography:\nChandrima Banerjee is an Assistant Professor of Physics at IIT Kanpur. She earned her Master’s degree from \nIIT Delhi and completed her PhD in 2017 at S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences\, India\, under Prof. \nAnjan Barman\, focusing on Brillouin light scattering of spin waves in ferromagnetic thin films and nanostructures.\n\nAs an Irish Research Council Postdoctoral Fellow at Trinity College Dublin (2018–2020)\, she discovered the fastest \nknown all-optical magnetic switching in ferrimagnetic Heusler alloys. She then pursued her second postdoc at Technion\, \nIsrael (2020–2023)\, working on attosecond X-ray magnetic circular dichroism spectroscopy.\n\nShe joined IIT Kanpur in June 2023\, where she is establishing her ultrafast optical spectroscopy lab \nand conducting micromagnetic simulations on chiral metamaterials for non-reciprocal magnonic propagation.\n\n\nHost Faculty:  Prof. Dhavala Suri
