NEMS devices can easily be driven into nonlinear regime. Combined this with ability to make arrays of devices, this opens up a whole range of interesting areas including synchronization of multiple oscillators and ability to study nonlinear behavior in few entities.
Noise in Nanoelectromechanical System
Nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) have generated a lot of interest as potential sensors. The sensitivity of the sensors critically depends on the stability of the resonant frequency of these devices. As the size of the devices decrease, noise processes which can easily be ignored at micro-scale become important. We are interested in studying the frequency stability of these resonant devices due to various noise sources
Strain Engineering
2D materials are capable of sustaining large strains. We are fabricating 2D material based NEMS on flexible substrates.
