Integrated quantum photonics
Quantum photonics has remarkable potential for Quantum Systems. Exploiting the quantum nature of the photons, it is natural to use then as Qubit for information processing. Photonic integrated circuits offer a compact and scalable platform for quantum information processing. A fully integrated quantum photonic integrated circuit can be realized using on-chip nonlinear and linear optical functions.
Bulk optics operating in the visible wavelength range is primarily used for demonstration of various quantum information processing. In practice, optical communication operates at 1310 nm and 1550 nm. By using silicon-based photonic circuit, we envisage a quantum photonic integrated circuit operating at the telecommunication wavelength range. The circuit would be the following capabilities: generate heralded photons, manipulate photon characteristics (polarization and phase), split/combine as desired, quantum gates, and detectors.
