Prof. Rudra Pratap's Research Group

We view cells as complex micromechanical structures and use our research and understanding of MEMS and NEMS devices to probe cells dynamically for teasing out pathology induced internal structural changes in cells. The goal here is to develop a field of mechano-diagnostics that provides orthogonal information to chemical probing through biomarkers for biomedical diagnostics. The tools and techniques developed for studying MEMS and NEMS devices are also appropriate for probing structures cells. We are using our expertise in studying extremely small-scale vibrations of micromechanical structures to develop very sensitive techniques for resolving extremely small scale changes in the structure and functioning of cells in order to detect specific diseases.
