Graphene Oxide-Platinum Nanocomposite for Sensor Applications

The present invention is in relation to fabricated Graphene Oxide (GO) – Platinum (Pt) nanocomposite films for temperature sensor applications based on the principle of negative temperature coefficient (NTC) resistive element. The invention also discloses a process of synthesis of the nanocomposite and method of fabrication of the nanocomposite film on a flexible substrate. The measured NTC and sensitivity of the sensor (figure 2(a)) were found to be -4.72 x 10-3 Ω / Ω / K and 2.306 Ω / K respectively. The combined non-linearity & hysteresis and hysteresis is found to be maximum of 2.27 % full scale output (FSO) and the maximum of 2.22 % full scale output (FSO) in the range of 213 K to 358 K respectively as shown in figure 2(b). The measured repeatability of the sensor is about 97.67 % of FSO. The fabricated Go-Pt sensor has better response time (11.5 Sec) in comparison with the commercial available sensors. The temperature sensitive resistor, which can be used in gas sensors, battery packs for optimization of battery life, integrated circuits and micro heaters etc.

Figure.2: (a) Schematic view of Graphene oxide- Pt nanocomposite based Temperature Sensor and inset shows photograph of the fabricated Sensor, (b) the resistance change with respect to the applied temperature exhibits the linear relationship in the successive two cycles.
