Lab-on-a-Chip

Manipulation of micro-droplets using electrostatic forces allows development of portable pumpless micro total analysis systems. The Micro-Nanofludics group is working on integration of various sensing technologies to the droplet based platform to achieve cheap point of care healthcare systems for Indian villages and remote locations. Based on the electrical actuation of droplets the Micro-Nanofluidics Lab is also developing portable devices that will be able to study chemical, electrical, optical and mechanical properties of individual cells for evaluation of a person’s health. In future these devices will enable complex pathological tests, which are currently limited to special labs and hospitals, to be performed in villages and other remote locations.
